The Birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, 1469.

Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, was most certainly born in a Hindu family. There is no doubt to this, nor to the fact that he also had two Sons and his family continued. What is even more remarkable though, is that Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji not only understood other religions but that he attempted to help their adherents better grasp the concepts of equality and tolerance. To look at the freedom that his father, Kalyan Chand Das Bedi, gave young Guru Nanak Dev Ji, was not a matter of his choice, but rather of his recognition. Young Guru Nanak, was not like other children in the family or like other children in general. From a very early age he challenged the accepted rituals of the household. Though he was extremely soft spoken about it, Guru Nanak did make his father rather disappointed at this time, but this was because his father did not recognize the mission his son would take. When young Guru Nanak was of working age, his father though relatively prosperous at the time, wanted to use this to make his son conform to the task of regular routine, marriage and being a provider. But, his thoughts though the norm in society in India at this time was not the only choice for a Hindu. The tradition of becoming a yogi still was possible, though it had fallen out of being as common after the Islamic Invasions India had suffered.
